Tennis: Zheng (CHN) beats Swiatek (POL) to advance to gold medal game!

Incredible scenes here at Roland Garros, where Zheng has just beaten the world no.1 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the women’s gold medal game! Swiatek has won the past three French Opens at this venue, so this is some achievement from the Chinese.

Zheng was superb in the first set, but the real story comes from the second set, where Swiatek was leading 4-0 at one point and on the verge of evening the match.

But Zheng started to claw her way back, breaking Swiatek twice and holding her own serve to even things 4-4. Both players won their service games to bring the set to 5-5, before Zheng broke the Pole to take a 6-5 lead. She then held her cool to win her service game 7-5, and take the match! 

The Chinese collapses to the clay at Court Philippe-Chatrier – she becomes the first athlete from her nation to make an Olympic tennis final!
