This evening, Liverpool will welcome Atalanta at Anfield for the opening leg of their Europa League quarterfinal matchup. The Reds have dropped into second position in the Premier League after a 2-2 draw with Manchester United over the weekend, and Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour is still underway.
Liverpool now has to perform well in Europe’s second tournament, as they are among the favorites to take home the championship following a formidable group round. The Reds advanced to the round of 16 and faced Sparta Prague after winning four of their six games and taking first place in Group E.
The Czech team was no match for Klopp’s winning team and lost the two legs by an aggregate score of 11-2, with Liverpool scoring six goals at Anfield back in March. When Liverpool plays Atalanta tonight, they have an opportunity to go to the semi-finals if they can duplicate those performances. After winning just two of their previous nine games, the Italian team is now ranked sixth in Serie A.
