Hester joined the University of Houston football program in January 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a passion for developing athletes both physically and mentally. Prior to his tenure at Houston, he served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Tulane University, where he worked alongside head coach Willie Fritz. His approach to strength training emphasized not only physical conditioning but also mental toughness and resilience, earning him the respect and admiration of coaches and players alike.
A Final Message of Inspiration
Just two days before his passing, Hester visited the Houston football facility to deliver a final message to the team. Head coach Willie Fritz described him as “the best strength and conditioning coach I’ve ever been around, but more importantly, just a fantastic role model for our student-athletes.” Hester’s unwavering commitment to his players and his profession left an indelible mark on the program.
A Tribute to a Beloved Coach
In their game against No. 24 Arizona State on October 25, 2025, the Houston Cougars honored Hester’s memory with a 24–16 victory. Quarterback Conner Weigman delivered a standout performance, leading the team to a win that was dedicated to their late coach. The Cougars’ defense held Arizona State scoreless in the first half, a testament to the discipline and preparation instilled by Hester. Following the game, the team posted a message on social media: “That was for you, Coach.”
