Jessica Pegula confirms shocking split with Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will not be partnering for doubles in the near future, disappointing American fans who hoped to see them team up for the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and the US Open. Both players have decided to prioritize their singles matches over doubles competitions.

Pegula stated, “I don’t think Coco or I are interested in playing doubles right now. We’re not considering it, so I’ll probably take it easy on doubles for the rest of the year. I might play occasionally when I feel like it, but I’ll likely focus on singles.”

Gauff had previously announced her decision to skip doubles in Cincinnati and the US Open to concentrate on her singles performance. She explained, “The goal was to be at my best for the Olympics. Playing both singles and doubles week after week is challenging. I’m opting out of doubles for now, but I might play occasionally next year. I won’t be as consistent in doubles as I have been in the past.”

Reflecting on her participation in Toronto after the Paris Olympics, Gauff admitted to feeling mentally and physically drained. “Perhaps I shouldn’t have played this tournament, but I wanted to challenge myself,” she said. “Simply staying in the top 10 isn’t enough for me anymore. I aim to win major tournaments.”

Both players cited the disappointments at the Paris Olympics as a factor in their decision to scale back on doubles play. They will now focus their efforts on achieving success in singles competitions for the remainder of the year.
