Carlos Alcaraz has made a great debut in the first Olympic Games of his career. The Spaniard has absolutely crushed Lebanon’s Hady Habib in the first round of the tournament by 6-3, 6-1. He will now play doubles with Rafael Nadal in the first round of the afternoon session on Court Philippe Chatrier against the number 6 seeds, Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
The match started presumably easy for Carlitos, with a 40-0 with his serve. However, Habib turned it around and took a break point in his favor. But the Spaniard responded well and pulled through the game, gaining a lot of confidence for the rest of the match.
From then on, the four-time Grand Slam champion won three games in a row, although it could have been more because he had several break points with 3-0 on the scoreboard. From that point on, both held their serves. They reached 5-3 and Alcaraz closed the first set with a blank game on his serve.
Second set
The second set started with Carlos Alcaraz in whirlwind mode. He broke Habib’s serve to start and it looked like he was going to run away with it from that moment on. Although the reality is that he had many difficulties in holding his serve with 2-1 in the scoreboard. In doing so, he again gave him a breath of fresh air and took advantage of it to get a double break in the set.
Alcaraz showed no more mercy and sealed his qualification to the second round with a final break of serve, setting up the 6-3, 6-1 final. He will now face the winner of the duel between Cameron Norrie and Tallon Griekspoor, who are waiting to play because the matches on the outdoor courts are delayed due to rain.
